While supporting the Eleonore Rocks foundation, our 2016 race is dedicated to the memory and honor of Art Lude. Art's love and support of family and friends also extended to the Eleonore Rocks foundation. Art truly reflected the mission and goals of our foundation and of our ambassadors, feeling at home on a bike or in a pair of running shoes while not missing opportunities to help others along the way. Several sources have reflected on times past when Art would occasionally ride his bike to work and back. We're not talking about a 5-minute commute. It was a 4-hour round-trip bike ride sandwiching a 12-hour work shift! Suffice to say, he could have hung with the best of our ambassadors.
One thing about Art that most might not have known is that he was a very talented artist! He attended the Fort Wayne Art Institute after his service in the Navy, proceeding his duty in Vietnam. Many of his paintings were finished during this time, some of which are displayed below.
We are beyond humbled and grateful for the opportunity to honor Art through our event this year.

Art was working as a night janitor for Lincoln National Life Insurance CO. in Fort Wayne, Indiana when he came up with the idea of producing this abstract of Abraham Lincoln for the company. Lincoln National was not interested in purchasing the piece. He was later informed that the price he offered for the company to purchase the painting was quite low, and that if he had priced it upwards of 10-times higher than he did, they likely would have snagged up the artwork!

Another project to highlight is a fascinating painting of Rembrandt, portraying both a young and older representation of the legendary artist on a single canvas!

Art's version of an "American Gothic" inspired painting is amazing. That's at first glance. If you dig deeper, it's realized that he incorporated his parents into the painting, complete with their old farmhouse in the background!
