Couch to 5K Training

We are offering a free 9-week training program for the community, which will meet every Friday evening from April 20th to June 15th at the Willard High School outdoor track!  This program will be catered to those who are new to running and walking, but all are welcome to attend.  Advanced runners can take this opportunity to focus on interval training runs!  All who arrive for the workout will be required to sign a liability waiver, as required by the school district.

We will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. every Friday, weather permitting.  The workout for each week will be posted here, and will involve 3 training sessions per week, with one of those sessions taking place when we meet on Friday.  Participants are encouraged to complete the other two training walks/runs on their own time during the week.  This program is designed to assist those new to running in finishing their first 5K.  The schedule will lead up to the Run4Hope 5K on June 16th, so it would be a perfect opportunity to finish this goal!

Each Friday session will begin with sharing information to assist with training, followed by stretching and a 25-minute workout.  Stick around post-workout to stretch and close out the evening in prayer!

This workout is largely based on the "None to Run Plan" found at www.nonetorun.com.  We will also provide an audio file that can be used in conjunction with the workouts, which will tell you when to change your workout effort.  If you notice the first workout, the audio will tell you to begin walking briskly for 5 minutes.  At the 5-minute mark, it will tell you to start running slowly (or walking at a more rapid pace) for 30 seconds, at which point it will tell you to begin walking for 2 minutes.  It will guide you through the workout, and is a great tool if you find it to be useful!

Below is the first workout for week 1, which will begin on April 20th.  The audio file can be found below the workout, as well as a link to the very simple strength routine to follow either after running or on on offday.  We hope to see you on Friday, April 20th at the Willard High School outdoor track!
